Temporary Timesharing in Coconut Creek
Protecting Your Parenting Time While a Family Case Is Pending
An interim time-sharing order can establish a workable parenting schedule while a divorce or paternity case remains unresolved. At The Law Offices of Jonny Kousa, P.L., we help Coconut Creek parents prepare requests, respond to disputes, and present their positions in Broward County Family Court.
We regularly handle child custody and time-sharing disputes, including highly contested matters that require careful preparation for mediation and court. Our firm has represented hundreds of individuals facing contested divorce and family law proceedings.

Temporary Parenting Plans Under Florida Law
Florida Statute Section 61.13 governs the creation and modification of parenting plans, including interim time-sharing schedules. Courts apply the best interests of the child standard, directing the judge to evaluate the child’s needs and relevant family circumstances rather than automatically favoring either parent.
A temporary parenting plan controls time-sharing while the divorce case or paternity case is pending. It remains subject to change and doesn’t automatically become the final parenting plan. The final schedule depends on any agreement the parents reach or the orders entered after the court considers the evidence.
A temporary parenting plan may address:
- School-day and weekend parenting time.
- Transportation and exchange arrangements.
- Holiday and school-break schedules.
- Overnight allocation between the parents.
Time-sharing establishes when the child spends time with each parent. Parental responsibility addresses authority over decisions affecting the child, such as education and health care. Both subjects can appear in a parenting plan, but they resolve separate issues.
Requesting an Interim Schedule in the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit
When parents can’t reach an interim agreement, either parent can file a motion requesting a temporary schedule and ask the judge to decide the issue. Both parents may present their positions at a hearing. Coconut Creek family law matters proceed through Broward County Family Court in Florida’s Seventeenth Judicial Circuit.
We develop case strategy and prepare documents for court filings. We also negotiate during mandatory mediation and keep clients informed as the case progresses. After the initial filing and mediation, pretrial hearings may address temporary arrangements. If issues remain unresolved, a final custody hearing allows the judge to decide them.
Attorney Jonny Kousa is a member of the Florida Bar and a former military lawyer. In that role, he provided legal services to soldiers and their families in divorce, paternity, time-sharing, alimony, and child support matters. That background informs our preparation for family disputes involving multiple connected issues.
Building a Proposed Parenting Schedule
A proposed schedule should address the routines and exchanges that shape the child’s daily life. We work with parents to identify disputed terms, organize the facts supporting their requested arrangement, and prepare for questions that may arise during mediation or a hearing.
If the parenting plan and time-sharing schedule remain disputed, each party in Broward County must file a proposed parenting plan and time-sharing schedule at least 15 days before the first day of trial. This requirement concerns trial preparation and doesn’t predict when a temporary hearing or final trial may occur.
Changes, Emergency Concerns & Temporary Child Support
A temporary parenting plan generally remains effective until the court changes it or enters a final judgment. A significant requested change to an interim schedule generally requires an evidentiary hearing, where testimony and other evidence can be presented. We also represent Coconut Creek clients seeking modification of existing child custody and time-sharing orders through the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit.
Emergency modification of a prior interim order is reserved for urgent, fact-specific circumstances involving substantial emotional abuse or trauma to a child. A scheduling disagreement alone doesn’t establish that standard. We can evaluate the facts, explain the available procedural options, and prepare the appropriate request when the circumstances support court intervention.
Temporary relief can also include child support while the underlying case is pending. Florida’s guideline calculation considers both parents’ net incomes, the number of overnights, and qualifying child-related expenses. The resulting obligation depends on the financial and time-sharing facts presented in the individual case.
